Here are some of the stories making news in the world of local government today.

Update: 4th August, 2022

Another councillor has announced a leave of absence to contest the state election. Gabrielle Di Vietri at Yarra City Council will stand as a Greens candidate, and will forgo her councillor allowance during the period of leave.

#updated# Mansfield Shire Council has appointed Kirsten Alexander as its new CEO on a 4 year term, commencing early September. Ms Alexander has been the council’s General Manager Infrastructure and Planning since 2020.

The CEO of the Victorian Local Governance Association has expressed concern over recent reports of poor behaviour in councils, and put forward a list of desired outcomes from the current culture review project.

Kathryn Arndt says change is required to ensure debate and interactions avoid hostility and aggression that compromises the ability of councils to perform at their best.

And from the US, an increasing number of cities are dealing with abandoned e-scooters after micro-mobility startup Bolt appears to have vanished. Techcrunch.com is reporting that so far at least seven cities in Oregon, Vermont and Virginia have reported the service has stopped and calls to the company for information are going unanswered.
