Sutherland Shire Council is preparing to bid farewell to its first female CEO, Manjeet Grewal, who has announced plans to retire after five years in the role and 31 years of service to the community.
Grewal, who has held various leadership positions within the council, will step down in early July.
Grewal described her tenure at the council as “immensely rewarding,” stating, “It has been an incredible privilege to lead an organisation whose purpose is to serve and strengthen local communities.” She expressed gratitude towards her colleagues and pride in the council’s accomplishments, including the launch of the $42 million Pavilion Performing Arts Centre.
Sutherland Shire Mayor, Councillor Carmelo Pesce, praised Grewal’s leadership and her contributions to the community. “On behalf of all the staff and Councillors who she has worked with over the years – and indeed, our entire community – I thank her for her for her immense contribution and wish her a long and happy retirement,” said Mayor Pesce.
As Grewal prepares to retire, the council will carry out a comprehensive recruitment process to find her successor.
Mayor Pesce expressed confidence in finding a capable successor to Grewal, despite acknowledging the challenge of matching her depth of local government knowledge and strategic leadership.
