Brent McAlister

Northern Grampians Shire Council has this week appointed its new CEO. Brent McAlister will take up the role on 13th February 2023.

Mr McAlister is a 25 year veteran of senior local government roles in Australia and New Zealand, including ten years at Lismore City Council, and most recently at Wellington Shire in Victoria.

The vacancy arose earlier this year when Liana Thompson resigned to take up a director role at Wyndham City Council. The council’s Director of Infrastructure and Amenity, Trenton Fithall, has been acting CEO since October.

Lismore City Council has appointed former Queensland council CEO Jon Gibbons as its new General Manager.

According to the Lismore App, he will step into the role on 9th February next year on a five year deal, and will be the council’s sixth GM in six years. He is taking over from interim GM John Walker.

Mr Gibbons was CEO at Scenic Rim Regional Council until August this year, and most recently held a senior role at Gold Coast City Council.

Orange Mayor, Jason Hamling

The mayor of Orange City Council, Jason Hamling, has taken extended leave for personal and family reasons.

The Central Western Daily reports ($) that a request for leave until March 2023 was submitted to the final Council meeting of the year, at which Mayor Hamling was not present.

Mr Hamling was elected mayor in December 2021, and has served on the council since 2004.

Campaspe Mayor, Cr Rob Amos

A controversial temporary levee in Echuca will be gone early in the new year.

The levee was built in October to protect the township from flooding from the Murray, Goulburn and Campaspe Rivers.

Campaspe Mayor Rob Amos said the State Emergency Service had approved the removal of the levee, and that works would start from the 9th January and take several weeks to complete.

Hume City Council is joining the majority of Victorian councils in using a waste service charge.

The council has approved a plan to remove the cost of waste and recycling services from general rates, and introduce an itemised waste service charge in the 2023/24 financial year.

According to the council, 76 of the state’s 79 councils now use a separate waste service charge to provide a clearer, more transparent picture of the cost to manage waste.

Senior City of Greater Geelong executive Guy Wilson-Browne is leaving the Council to take up a general manager position at North East Water.

The Geelong Advertiser has reported that Mr Wilson-Browne takes up his new role in February.
