A motion supporting a ceasefire in Gaza has been passed by Merri-bek City Council.
Cr Sue Bolton put forward a detailed motion for consideration and debate, leading to a resolution to advocate to the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister to call for an immediate ceasefire and an end to “Israel’s indiscriminate bombing”.
The motion also calls for a report to explore the cancellation of contracts with companies that support or profit from the occupation of Palestine.
The Palestinian flag will be raised at the Coburg Civic Centre for six months.
The resolution was not unanimous, and passed by six votes to four.
