The Age reports today on a bidding war between the state government and Port Phillip City Council for a piece of land in Fishermans Bend which was earmarked as open space in the precinct’s masterplan.
The Council wants the site, currently owned by Australia Post, to relieve pressure on football and cricket needs at the adjacent North Port Oval.

Port Phillip Mayor Heather Cunsolo described the idea of a bidding war for the site as ‘absurd’ and wants the state government to jointly fund development of the site for sporting use and open space.
