A proposal to explore a merger of Upper Hunter Shire and Muswellbrook Shire Councils has failed to gain the support of Upper Hunter councillors last night.
Cr Troy Stolz brought forward a motion calling for a consultative process on a potential amalgamation, which he argued could help tackle Upper Hunter Shire’s debt crisis and bring economic diversity to Muswellbrook.
The Roundup understands that while the motion was seconded, allowing the motion to be debated, Cr Stolz was the only councillor to vote for it.
