The Victorian Government has announced a preferred site for a new community hospital in the City of Whittlesea. A block of land on Plenty Road, Mernda close to the Mernda Train Station and accessible to the future Mernda town centre will be acquired ahead of construction starting next year, for completion in 2024. IPWEA Victoria has announced the nominees for the 2021 Engineering Excellence Awards. Councils from across the state are featured on the list of nominees across a range of awards categories including excellence in innovation, asset management, sustainability and public works leadership. Consultation has commenced on six Land Use Framework Plans developed by the Victorian Government for the six metropolitan regions identified in Plan Melbourne. Online community information sessions will be held next month for each region, and submissions invited via the Engage Victoria website. Read more here.
Cr Candy Bingham will continue as Deputy Mayor of Northern Beaches Council after being elected to the role for the third time. With the current term due to expire on 4th September, there was a need to conduct an election to fill the role for the period until general elections which are due to be held on 4th December. The official Tamworth Monopoly game has received final design approval and pre-sales have commenced. The game is expected to be available in time for Christmas and for the 50th anniversary of the Tamworth Country Music Festival in January. Read more here.
And in South Australia, 16 Councils will receive funding from the State Bicycle Fund for local cycling projects. $3.2 million will help to fund 34 projects across metropolitan and regional South Australia. Read more here.
