Queensland Premier Steven Miles is reported to be considering issuing a show cause notice about a potential suspension of Townsville Mayor Troy Thompson.
The Townsville Bulletin and ABC News have reported that Mr Miles was discussing the matter with Cabinet today, after receiving legal advice on options to force the issue, as calls for Mr Thompson to stand aside have not succeeded.
Mr Miles said he had received advice that a Crime and Corruption Commission investigation will likely take many months, and he is concerned the current situation has caused Townsville “to stumble” after it was “pumping up until the local government election.”
