Hawkesbury City Council has appointed Will Barton as General Manager, with the appointment effective immediately.

Mayor Cr Les Sheather announced the appointment at Tuesday night’s Council Meeting, following Mr Barton’s selection as preferred candidate at an Extraordinary Meeting held the previous Friday. Council described the field of applicants as high-quality, with Mr Barton emerging as the outstanding candidate.

Mr Barton has served as Acting General Manager since April 2026, and was previously Director of Infrastructure Services from November 2021. He brings more than two decades of experience in local government and infrastructure leadership, including senior executive roles across regional and metropolitan councils.

Mayor Sheather noted Mr Barton’s role in guiding the Hawkesbury’s recovery following the series of floods between 2020 and 2024, and said Council had full confidence in his ability to lead the organisation.
