Victorian Council Vacancy Updates

Two updates to report this week on the process to fill current vacancies on Victorian Councils.

The field is set for the postal by-election for Thomastown Ward in Whittlesea City Council, triggered by the resignation of Nic Brooks in January.

According to the VEC, candidates contesting the election are:

  • TIWARI, Chaman
  • SUKKAR, Edward
  • PAOLA, Joseph
  • GARNHAM, Sarah
  • KOZMEVSKI, Stevan
  • STOJCEVSKI, Belinda
  • SINGH, Aryan
  • FILIPPOPOULOS, Andrew
  • SEIDL, Paul

Former councillor Stevan Kozmevski is one of the nominated candidates. Mr Kozmevski was elected to the council in Lalor Ward in October 2024, but later removed from office after VCAT voided the result due to “attempted and actual interference.” There was no suggestion of any involvement by Mr Kozmevski in the fraud.

Voting in the by-election closes on Friday 29th May.

Meanwhile, a countback for Southern Grampians Council has been set for 11th May at 10.30am. It is required to replace Albert Calvano who recently resigned from the council after 18 years.
