Tenterfield GM Leaving; Acting GM Appointed
Tenterfield Shire Council has officially accepted the resignation of General Manager Hein Basson, marking the end of a two-year chapter for the lcouncil.
The New England Times reported that the decision was formalised during a council meeting on April 22, with Basson’s final day set for June 5, 2026.
Mayor Bronwyn Petrie expressed the community’s gratitude for Mr Basson’s steady hand during his tenure. Under his leadership, the Shire navigated complex recovery efforts and solidified cultural partnerships.
Key Achievements Include:
- Disaster Recovery: Overseeing the management of critical grants to rebuild local infrastructure.
- Tourism Growth: Finalising the arrangement with the Tenterfield Chamber of Tourism, Industry and Business to run the Tourist Information Centre.
- Cultural Hubs: Securing licensing for the Museum, Theatre, and Cinema via the School of Arts Incorporated.
“On behalf of councillors and residents, I thank Mr Basson for his leadership and achievements over the past two years,” Mayor Petrie stated.
Matthew Francisco, the current Director of Infrastructure Services, has been appointed as Acting General Manager.
Francisco will step into the role immediately while Basson is on leave through to his official departure in June.
Council has indicated that updates regarding the formal recruitment process for a permanent General Manager will be provided “in due course.”
