Hornsby Shire Council has appointed long-serving executive Glen Magus as its permanent Chief Executive Officer, following a competitive recruitment process.

Mr Magus has served as Acting General Manager since November 2025, stepping in following the resignation of the previous General Manager, Steven Head. The appointment was formally ratified by Council at its most recent meeting, with councillors having served on the recruitment panel throughout the process.

Mr Magus brings more than 28 years of experience within Hornsby Shire Council to the role. He has held a number of senior leadership positions during his tenure, including Chief Financial Officer and, most recently, seven years as Director Corporate Support — a role in which he led the development of Council’s Leadership Framework, oversaw customer service and technology transformation programs, and strengthened Council’s cyber security capabilities.

Since taking on the Acting General Manager role, Mr Magus has overseen delivery of several major projects, including the opening of the Crusher Plant Precinct and Southern Lookout at Hornsby Park, the commencement of the next stage of the Hornsby Park project at Old Mans Valley, the new pavilion at Mark Taylor Oval, and works to revitalise the Galston Village Centre. Council also adopted its 2026–2030 Delivery Program, 2026–2027 Operational Plan, and Long Term Financial Plan during this period.

Hornsby Shire Mayor Warren Waddell said Mr Magus’s professional credentials and knowledge of local government made him the standout candidate in a highly competitive process, and that councillors looked forward to working closely with him.

Mr Magus, who described himself as a third-generation Hornsby Shire local, said he was honoured to take on the role and looked forward to continuing to work alongside Council staff to deliver the community’s vision under the Community Strategic Plan.
