New Face for Shire Council Following Court Ruling

The Shire of Derby/West Kimberley has confirmed a shake-up of its elected members following a decision by the Court of Disputed Returns.

The ruling stems from an invalidity complaint lodged by the Western Australian Electoral Commission regarding the 2025 local government elections. While the Shire noted the initial results were marred by “eligibility matters,” the court has now provided a definitive revised outcome.

Under the court’s orders, a change has been made to the council’s composition. Lachie Carracher has been declared elected, replacing Eliot Money, who had served since the October poll. The Shire expressed its gratitude to Mr Money for his service to the community and acknowledged that all candidates had nominated in good faith.

The judicial review also clarified the rankings and terms of other candidates.

With the legal proceedings concluded, the Shire is focused on returning to “business as usual.” The council says it looks forward to working with the new and returning members to provide stable governance and leadership for the district.
