Mr Hamilton was appointed under the NSW Office of Local Government’s Procedures for the Appointment and Management of the General Manager. The appointment followed an interview process held as part of the Extraordinary Council Meeting on 21 October 2026.

Council says Mr Hamilton brings extensive experience across local and state government. Mayor Cr Susannah Pearse said his background includes a track record of improving capital works delivery, and that Council is confident his leadership will be a strong asset for the organisation and the community.

Mr Hamilton said, “Moree Plains has enormous potential.” He said he looks forward to working with councillors, staff and communities, and to being actively involved across the Shire.

Mayor Cr Pearse also acknowledged Mr Ian Stoneman, who has served as Acting General Manager for the past four months during the recruitment and transition period.
