Macedon Ranges Mayor resigns to contest state seat

Date: 17th July 2026

Macedon Ranges Shire Council‘s Mayor, Cr Kate Kendall, has resigned from the mayoralty effective close of business on Friday 24 July, to stand as a candidate for the state seat of Macedon at the November Victorian election.

In a statement issued this afternoon, Cr Kendall said she had informed the CEO of her decision, allowing for a one-week transition period. She will continue to serve as a councillor for her ward.

Cr Kendall was elected Mayor eight months ago. In her statement, she described the role as one of the great honours of her life and said she had strived to be a visible, approachable and hardworking leader during her term.

She said the decision to contest Macedon had not been made lightly, but that she believed it was the right time to pursue the opportunity. Over the coming week, Cr Kendall said she would work with the CEO, Deputy Mayor and fellow councillors to ensure a smooth handover of mayoral responsibilities.

Council has not yet confirmed the date or process for electing a new Mayor.
