LGA South Australia appoints Victoria MacKirdy as new CEO
The Local Government Association of South Australia (LGA SA) has appointed long-time local government executive Victoria MacKirdy as its new Chief Executive Officer.
MacKirdy has been Chief Executive Officer of the City of Victor Harbor since 2018 and brings almost three decades of experience across regional and metropolitan councils, along with six years in the private sector. Her sector leadership roles have included serving as President of Local Government Professionals Australia (South Australia), and she has also held board positions with Country Arts South Australia and Regional Development Australia Adelaide Hills, Fleurieu Peninsula and Kangaroo Island.
In a statement, MacKirdy said she was “honoured” to be appointed and looked forward to leading LGA SA’s work supporting councils statewide. She said the opportunity to represent the sector collectively, build on shared services, and advocate on key issues for councils and communities was central to her decision to take the role.
LGA SA President Mayor Dr Heather Holmes-Ross said MacKirdy’s “extensive council and private sector knowledge” and leadership credentials made her a standout candidate, adding the board was focused on delivering the association’s strategic goals and creating new opportunities for collaboration and value for member councils.
MacKirdy is due to commence in the role on 20 July 2026.
The City of Victor Harbor confirmed MacKirdy advised the council of her decision following a period of reflection, and said recruitment for Victor Harbor’s next CEO would begin immediately to support an orderly transition. MacKirdy’s final day with the council is expected to be 17 July 2026.
