Federal Court Orders Reinstatement of Katherine Town Council CEO
Katherine Town Council, in the Northern Territory, has officially acknowledged a Federal Court order requiring the immediate reinstatement of Ms. Ingrid Stonhill as Chief Executive Officer.
The order, handed down on March 23, 2026, comes amidst ongoing legal proceedings regarding Ms. Stonhill’s employment. While the specifics of the dispute remain subject to legal privilege, the reinstatement is an interim measure pending the outcome of a complaint process currently being handled by the Australian Human Rights Commission.
In a statement released this week, the Council confirmed its intent to comply fully with the court’s direction.
“Council respects the Court process and will continue to comply fully with all legal obligations,” the statement read. “As this matter remains before the Court and is subject to ongoing legal processes… Council will refrain from providing any additional commentary.”
Despite the leadership changes and the legal backdrop, the Council emphasised that its primary focus remains on the community. Officials stated that delivery of essential services will continue without interruption.
