Bass Coast Mayor steps aside
The Mayor of Bass Coast Shire Cr Rochelle Halstead has officially announced her decision to step down from the mayoralty following her preselection as a candidate for the seat of Bass in the upcoming state election.
In a message to the community, the Cr Halstead reflected on a term defined by “leadership through unity,” citing the council’s early and unanimous advocacy for coastal erosion action at Inverloch and Silverleaves as a turning point for the region’s representation.

“Serving as Mayor has been a privilege… This role has never been about one person. It has been about working together, listening to our community, and making decisions that help shape a strong future for Bass Coast,” said Cr Halstead.
While resigning as Mayor, Cr Halstead confirmed she will remain the Councillor for Western Port Ward until closer to the state election, ensuring local issues remain a priority during the transition.
“Bass Coast deserves strong advocacy at every level,” she stated, noting her intention to take the region’s concerns to a broader platform.
The Council is scheduled to meet tomorrow (29th April), and is expected to elect a new mayor at that time.
