KATHERINE, NT – Katherine Town Council has announced the departure of Chief Executive Officer Ingrid Stonhill, following a decision by the Council to terminate her contract.

The decision was finalised during a confidential session of a recent Council meeting. Ms. Stonhill, who became the first female CEO in the council’s 44-year history when she was appointed in early 2022, had overseen several significant municipal projects and organisational reforms during her tenure.
In the interim, Council has appointed Casey Anderson, formerly the Manager of Corporate Administration, as Acting CEO to ensure the continued delivery of essential services and the progression of key community projects.
Mayor Joanna Holden stated that the Council is focused on stability and moving forward with its strategic priorities for the Katherine township.
The leadership change follows a period of public scrutiny regarding internal governance. In late 2024, a dispute arose involving a pay recommendation from the Remuneration Tribunal, which became a point of contention between the executive and elected members.
Additionally, Ms. Stonhill had been involved in a Fair Work Commission matter regarding workplace conduct and communication protocols between the CEO’s office and a councillor.
During her time with the Council, Ms. Stonhill was recognised nationally, receiving an honourable mention at the 2023 Women in Local Government Awards. Her tenure saw the development of the Council’s first strategic plan and significant advocacy for the $10 million aquatic centre upgrade.
Katherine Town Council has indicated that the recruitment process for a new Chief Executive Officer will commence in due course.
