Canadian town votes to ban Pride symbols

The town of Westlock, north of Edmonton in Canada, has voted in support of banning Pride flags and rainbow crosswalks on municipal property.

A slim majority voted for the ban in a plebiscite.

Despite a stated commitment from councillors to equality, diversity, and inclusion, the town will now only fly government flags and paint crosswalks in a white striped pattern.

Mayor Jon Kramer said the town plans to continue supporting marginalized groups, including the LGBTQ community.
