Latrobe City Council has today announced the resignation of Morwell River Ward Councillor Tracie Lund, effective immediately.
Ms. Lund, who has served as a councillor for five years, was a prominent advocate for mental health, social inclusion, and community liveability. During her tenure, she also served as Deputy Mayor in 2024. Her work was deeply rooted in her role as the manager of the Morwell Neighbourhood House, where she championed grassroots democracy and supported residents through various economic and social transitions.
Latrobe City Mayor, Councillor Sharon Gibson, expressed the council’s gratitude for Ms. Lund’s dedicated service.
“I thank Ms. Lund for her time as Councillor and her leadership as Deputy Mayor,” Cr Gibson said. “On behalf of the Council, I wish her all the very best with her future endeavours.”
The vacancy in the Morwell River Ward will trigger a by-election, which will be managed by the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC). Details regarding the nomination process and voting dates will be released once the VEC provides further instruction.
The resignation follows a challenging period for Ms. Lund, who took a leave of absence in mid-2025 following the passing of her husband, Simon.
