A Merri-bek Council 26th January event was targeted by protestors, described by its mayor as ‘racist extremists’.
The council’s mourning ceremony on Thursday morning was attended by around 70 members before a disruption by the protest group.
Mayor Angelica Panopoulos said the ceremony honouring the First Nations community continued, and that the city’s resolve to work towards treaty and reconciliation had been furthered by the incident.
