Melbourne City Council will tonight consider a development for the last remaining waterfront block at New Quay in Docklands.

The Herald Sun reports that the council is expected to support a 24-storey building and a new park on the site.

The outgoing CEO Geelong City Council, Martin Cutter, has delivered some home truths to a development industry event, describing the Geelong CBD as ‘hooked on cars’ and some of its areas as festering sores.

The Geelong Advertiser has a report on the speech in today’s issue, in which Mr Cutter highlights issues that need resolving to prepare the city for its continuing population boom.

The outcome of the re-run election in Shellharbour Ward A looks likely to be the same as last December’s election that was later voided by the Supreme Court.

The Illawarra Mercury reports that independent Kellie Marsh h as a lead that is unlikely to be overtaken, and preferences will likely ensure Labor’s Maree Edwards gains the other position.

New developments in the Karen Williams story today, with confirmation that Queensland’s Office of the Independent Assessor has investigated the Redland Mayor for misconduct, and may be preparing to refer the matter to a Councillor Conduct Tribunal.

The news, reported this morning by the ABC, comes after Ms Williams was sentenced yesterday to 80 hours of community service and lost her licences for six months, after pleading guilty to drink driving.

The 2022 Mainstreet Australia conference is in Victoria this week, with a metropolitan program today at the Hawthorn Arts Centre, before heading to Castlemaine in central Victoria for a regional event on Thursday.

The theme of the conference is ‘From Adversity to Opportunity’, highlighting ideas to ensure the continued survival of main streets and the small businesses that populate them.
